hi hi hi sorry i was gone but (i think i told you this? lol idk) i had to go spend eid etc with my boyfriend's grandma (!!!) in the middle of nowhere bc i stupidly told her i had no plans and then i couldn't get out of her invite without it looking really obvious and rude, and omg it was so awk and THE LANGUAGE BARRIER OMFG. i only know like 3 words of turkish and she didn't use any of them >:C

also she had no computer, no tele, only a radio that was like a billion years old lol.

also she was like "oh btw you need to fly in to dalaman airport and get the dolmuş from there" and i was like yeah sure w/e
SHE DIDN'T TELL ME IT WAS A MILITARY AIRPORT ;~;
and it was so scary bc my passport is all BIRTHPLACE: TALIBAN-LAND!!!! PROBABLY A TERRORIST!!! LOOKS A BIT SHIFTY, NEEDS A FULL BODY SEARCH TO CHECK FOR BOMBS!!!! >:c
and bc it's czech it doesn't have my gender as 3, it has it by ~chromosomes, so it says M and they all thought i was a dragqueen bc of my ~girly face and hair~ and it was hilariously awkward watching them dance around pronouns lmao

but w/e they only charged me like 350ck for entry to the country so they can't have distrusted me too much lql

/my boring life

BUT ANYWAY YES AHOJ I AM RETURNED~

how are all of you????? HOW DID YOUR P E N I S GO, GUI?????

Belgium is like our rival little bb sibling (we both think we are better than the other) so this is extra terrible lql

Also this beautiful human being is our new coach, Louis van Gaal:

omg my walter is so cool

so i looked up Walter Tull (the guy who they had that memorial to in the football racism documentary) and omg he's p amazing:

he was the 2nd non-white guy to play in the top-level in britain and the first black guy to play in latin america

his brother was the first ever non-white person to qualify as a dentist in britain!!!

he became an orphan when he was 7 after his dad died and his stepmom couldn't cope with 6 kids, so they ended up in an orphanage :c

his grandmother was a slave in barbados

he was amazing!!!! the newspapers said: "Tull's display on Saturday (against Manchester United) must have astounded everyone who saw it. Such perfect coolness, such judicious waiting for a fraction of a second in order to get a pass in not before a defender has worked to a false position, and such accuracy of strength in passing I have not seen for a long time. During the first half, Tull just compelled Curtis to play a good game, for the outside-right was plied with a series of passes that made it almost impossible for him to do anything other than well." and "[he has] a class superior to that shown by most of his colleagues"

he played for tottenham and was paid the highest wage of £4 per week! but was dropped to the reserves bc every time he played he got abuse from fans (so bad even the newspapers back then were like "dude naw" about it)

he then joined northampton town who were coached by herbert chapman who had been a player at stalybridge rovers when arthur wharton (britain's first top-level non-white player) was their goalkeeper!

despite being a midfielder, he once scored FOUR goals in one game :ooo

even tho he quickly became the fans' favourite player he still got really bad abuse from the opposition: "A section of the spectators made a cowardly attack upon him in language lower than Billingsgate... Let me tell these Bristol hooligans that Tull is so clean in mind and method as to be a model for all white men who play football whether they be amateur or professional. In point of ability, if not in actual achievement, Tull was the best on the field."

he had entered negotiations to transfer to glasgow rangers but then the war started so he immediately dropped his football career and enlisted (the 1st footballer from his team to do so)

he was the first infantry officer that wasn't white despite military law forbidding "any n#gro or person of colour" becoming an officer

he fought in the first and second battle of the somme AND messines AND ypres AND passchendaele, and he survived!!!

tho after the battle of the somme he caught trench fever (omg) and had to go back to britain briefly to recover

when he recovered he went back to fight and was sent to italy where he led his men in the battle of piave and was mentioned in official dispatches for his "gallantry and coolness under fire"

in 1918 he was transferred back to france and was killed in action trying to cross no man's land a few months before the end of the war. he was "killed instantaneously with a bullet through his head" :c

he was so popular that several of his men risked their lives trying to bring his body back to the british trenches despite being under machine-gun fire at the time

his body was never recovered and he was just 29 years old at the time of his death ;~;

also: Walter's War, a drama about the life of Walter Tull, starring O. T. Fagbenle and written by Kwame Kwei-Armah, was made by UK channel BBC4 and screened on 9 November 2008 as part of the BBC's Ninety Years of Remembrance season. It drew 406,000 viewers and was the third most watched program on BBC4 during the week ending 9 November 2008.

i looked for this online but couldn't find it. if someone does find it we are watching it y/y?

Is Football Racist?

Answer: Duh. But I meant this:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01l204m/Is_Football_Racist/

Following a season in which football has been rocked by allegations of racism, former Premier league defender Clarke Carlisle explores how far his profession has really progressed since the dark days of banana throwing on the terraces in this documentary.

Nicknamed 'Britain's brainiest footballer', Clarke has played at all levels from the Premiership to the fourth division, and as the chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association he feels he has a good grasp of the issues confronting football today.

Setting out with the belief that racism has been largely eradicated from the game and that the frenzy surrounding the recent allegations shows the issue is being taken seriously by the authorities, Clarke begins to face a stark realisation on a journey which sees the issue of racism in football come very close to home.

This was on BBC tonight, and since it's only an hour long and available on iplayer for a week only (i think) I thought I'd make a new post instead of posting it as a movie rec. Would any of you be interested in watching this? i haven't watched it yet but i might do that at some point tomorrow and let you know how it is. :)

ETA: I watched just over half of it over breakfast and while Clarke Carlisle said some random big statements it's quite interesting. It involves him going to a game in Poland before the euro - obviously TW for violence for that part.

TERRY IN COURT

The Chelsea captain, John Terry, has denied racially abusing Queens Park Rangers's Anton Ferdinand, admitting that he used racist and offensive language but arguing that he only did so "sarcastically".

Terry, 31, shouted "fuck off, fuck off ... fucking black c#nt, fucking knobhead", at Ferdinand, 27, after being "goaded" by the QPR defender over an alleged affair with a "team-mate's missus", during the heated incident at Loftus Road, Westminster magistrates court heard.

Terry did not deny using the racist language during the match on 23 October 2011, which was shown on television pictures broadcast to millions worldwide.

Asked why he was "reluctant" to involve police, Ferdinand said he had wanted it to be "dealt with by the FA" as it happened on the pitch. He had "no reason" to make up the allegation or add a racial element to provoke Terry, he said.

Carter-Stephenson claimed Ferdinand's agent Justin Rigby said there was a fear that if no further action was taken, black footballers would see it as "a white man's word against a black man's word". He alleged Ferdinand decided to go to the police only when Rigby persuaded him to, a claim denied by the player.

∵ Trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court expected to last five days
∵ Terry faces maximum fine of £2,500 but no prospect of jail (for comparison: luis suarez was fined £40,000 for similar language)
∵ FA inquiry has been postponed until after criminal case
∵ Police launched investigation after member of the public complained
∵ Terry ordered to sit in dock despite request to be placed beside his lawyer (lol sucks to be you)
Stephen Lawrence's mother Doreen attended today's hearing (info on stephen)

figured we should talk about this
i love that he's not denying saying racist shit and yet is denying being racist lolwat

omg did you read about goal-line technology finally being approved! i wouldn't have thought that would happen btw but i'm happy about it

while i enjoy the drama that comes with a goal wrongly given/not given it's rly not very fair
